Italian wines are so well loved and respected, they\u2019re almost synonymous with quality.<\/h4>\n

\"Line<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

While\u00a0many might think of Tuscany<\/strong> and its Chianti<\/strong> with their pasta dishes, or Veneto<\/strong> and it\u2019s prosecco<\/strong>\u00a0and amarone<\/strong>, Italy is home to 20 wine regions and around 350 indigenous grape varieties.<\/p>\n

For many years, Italy has topped the charts as the world\u2019s largest producer of wine<\/strong>, with almost\u00a020 percent of the world\u2019s bottles<\/strong> – around double that of all the USA, yet the country is only three-\u00a0quarters the length of California. And with a population of only 60 million people, Italians can\u2019t\u00a0drink all the wine they make, so nearly half is exported – and Canada is Italy\u2019s 5th largest market<\/strong>!<\/p>\n

Whether you\u2019re a fan of Barolo<\/strong> or Brunello<\/strong>, or the wines from Sicily<\/strong> or Sardinia<\/strong>, finding a store\u00a0with a top-notch selection (and the people who can help you find the right bottle) can be\u00a0intimidating.<\/p>\n

So where do we find the best selections of Italian products in BC?<\/h4>\n<\/blockquote>\n

With many of us staying in and looking for quality wines to drink at home, the Italian Trade\u00a0Commission set out on a quest to find the liquor stores in Western Canada that have the finest\u00a0selections of Italian wines<\/strong>, spirits<\/strong>, and liqueurs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Over 300 beverage importers were asked to nominate the sales staff and their stores, to find out\u00a0who is working with a wide variety of Italian wines<\/strong> – not just the well known producers and\u00a0regions – and who really embraces what Italian wines have to offer. Then for judging,\u00a0the stores with the most nominations were asked to sum up in a video of less than two minutes, their\u00a0approach to Italian wine, the breadth and depth of their selection (variety of prices, uncommon\u00a0wines, appellations, and producers) to encapsulate their passion.<\/p>\n
