Passing of Corrado Paina – ICCO Executive Director

It’s with great sadness that we pass along news of the loss of a much-respected leader in the Italian-Canadian community and devoted champion of Italian culture. Corrado Paina, longtime Executive Director of the Italian Chamber of Commerce of Ontario has passed away in hospital.

In addition to being a respected businessman and community leader, Corrado was also an accomplished writer and artist. He received the “Menzione civica – Ambrogino d’oro” award from the City of Milan for his work twinning the cities of Toronto and Milan. In 2016 he was been appointed Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy.

The ICCCW Board of Directors and our Team extend our deepest condolences to Corrado’s family and our friends at the ICCO.

The Italian Chamber of Commerce in Canada West is one of the most active and respected bilateral trade organizations in Western Canada with offices in Vancouver, Calgary and Rome, a dynamic hub fostering business relationships between Italy and Canada. 

As an integral part of our organization, you will be responsible for performing a variety of administrative and clerical tasks to ensure smooth and efficient operations.

You will be working from our Vancouver downtown office 20 hours/ week. 

Please note this is a fully in-person position. 

Responsibilities:

– Manage incoming calls, emails, and correspondence with professionalism and courtesy.

– Assist in organizing and scheduling appointments, meetings, and events.

– Maintain and organize office files, documents, and records.

– Coordinate office supplies, restocking as needed, and ensuring a well-maintained workspace.

– Provide administrative support to team members as required.

– Handle bookkeeping tasks, such as invoicing and expense tracking.

Requirements:

– Fluency in English (written and spoken) is essential.

Online Summer Courses 2020

NABA Online Summer Courses 2020 offer four of NABA’s most celebrated courses in the Interior Design and Fashion Image & Styling paths. The courses grant a condensed and blended learning version of the most significant trends of design of spaces and resilience design along with introductory and intermediate level courses on Fashion Image & Styling with the chance to experiment with a relevant project-theme.

NABA Online Summer Courses 2020 are intensive research and project-based trainings, which include:

• INTRODUCTORY LEVEL COURSE: intended for students without any academic background in the specific subject area and for students attending their first year of university studies in Art and Design

•• INTERMEDIATE LEVEL COURSES: for students with some background in that specific subject area and to students attending or having completed one or two years of their university studies in Art and Design who are keen on building upon this through hands-on training experience

••• ADVANCED LEVEL COURSE: for final year university students or those with some initial work experience in the field willing to explore new opportunities combining strategy and creativity.

NABA Academic System is based on CFA credits (1 CFA = 1 ECTS). NABA can award credits for Online Summer Courses 2020, so it will be easier for students to transfer their credits to other Universities and Academies that use or acknowledge the ECTS system.

GHELLA WINS RACE for Broadway Subway Project

The Italian Chamber of Commerce in Canada West Congratulates Acciona-Ghella Joint Venture for Winning the Race for Broadway Subway Project.

Following a competitive procurement process launched by the Province of British Columbia, the Acciona-Ghella Joint Venture has been chosen to design, build and partially finance the Broadway Subway Project in Vancouver. Led by Acciona and Ghella, Acciona-Ghella Joint Venture also includes IBI Group Professional Services, Dialog Design, Mott MacDonald and Ingenieria Especializada Obra Civil e Industrial, S.A. which will be responsible for the design.

With the budget of $2.83 billion, the Broadway Subway project is a key part of the rapid transit program in the Metro Vancouver Mayors’ Council’s 10-Year Vision, funded by the governments of B.C. and Canada, TransLink and local municipalities.

It is a 5.7-kilometre extension of the Millennium Line, from VCC-Clark Station to Broadway and Arbutus. It will provide fast, frequent and convenient SkyTrain service to B.C.’s second-largest jobs centre, health services and an emerging innovation and research hub, and growing residential communities.

Once opened, the commute from VCC-Clark Station to Arbutus Station will take about 11 minutes. This will save the average transit commuter almost 30 minutes a day, while also relieving traffic congestion along Broadway.

The contract will be signed shortly and construction should begin before the end of the year, while the line is scheduled to open in 2025.
