The Italian Chamber of Commerce in Canada West Congratulates Acciona-Ghella Joint Venture for Winning the Race for Broadway Subway Project.
Following a competitive procurement process launched by the Province of British Columbia, the Acciona-Ghella Joint Venture has been chosen to design, build and partially finance the Broadway Subway Project in Vancouver. Led by Acciona and Ghella, Acciona-Ghella Joint Venture also includes IBI Group Professional Services, Dialog Design, Mott MacDonald and Ingenieria Especializada Obra Civil e Industrial, S.A. which will be responsible for the design.
With the budget of $2.83 billion, the Broadway Subway project is a key part of the rapid transit program in the Metro Vancouver Mayors’ Council’s 10-Year Vision, funded by the governments of B.C. and Canada, TransLink and local municipalities.
It is a 5.7-kilometre extension of the Millennium Line, from VCC-Clark Station to Broadway and Arbutus. It will provide fast, frequent and convenient SkyTrain service to B.C.’s second-largest jobs centre, health services and an emerging innovation and research hub, and growing residential communities.
Once opened, the commute from VCC-Clark Station to Arbutus Station will take about 11 minutes. This will save the average transit commuter almost 30 minutes a day, while also relieving traffic congestion along Broadway.
The contract will be signed shortly and construction should begin before the end of the year, while the line is scheduled to open in 2025.
